The Future Struggle

Music expresses struggle,
the future will be,
cultures will come to be one.

Lights, Camera...techno ?

http://youtu.be/Yd3hzYAJzOo
The video above shows that already music is becoming something else. Is it possible that the path of music is just being beats and digital? When I saw the video for the first time, I didn't really miss any lyrics to it. I was focus on the lights and the sound. Lights and sound. That is it. The signals for music are becoming more complex that no ordinary person can physically play it on any instruments. People need computer to produce these signals. Light also has an interesting role to play in the future of music. The video seems as though the lights are the lyrics.

Space the Final Frontier

I am stepping out of my boundaries here. I try to stay away from mainstream music, but I saw this and wasn't really focus on the artists or the lyrics at first. I was more concern about space and music. At some point musicians will do so many songs about so many subjects, that I wonder if there will there be anymore ideas to write about? Maybe space will be the next thing to actually focus on. What does space mean to music? Is there really songs about space itself? It is one of the biggest organism in this reality. Yes it breathes, it thinks, it can destroy and create, why not focus on something like it? It almost seems that space is God.

The didg is back

I think more towards the future will become to merge old world and present world to make the future world. The didgeridoo is an ancient instruments that people are going to reinvent into more broad stream music. I understand that they are instruments throughout history up in till today. The instruments that I think will become more popularized into music are ones that people never see today.

Music and Future

What will music be like in 20 years or more? I wonder to myself about it. When I am 40 at the time it is going to be interesting to look back at the music I had once listen too. Music in the future, in my personal opinion, will be more intellectual. The lyrics will have more meaning to people than what mainstream artist do today. I think they will bring old school values back into the world. Many more artists will actually play instruments and sing. Anyone today can sing with the technology we have today, but how many of them can also play an instrument. I don't think music will be futuristic tones and beats, but I could be wrong. I believe sometime soon the music industry, artist, musicians, beatboxers, etc. will hit a crucial point that will effect the future of music. At that point they will internalize many issues and bring the true music that they want to give out to the world

Music in the Future!

If I had to guess what music is going to sound like in the future, I would say it's going to sound like today's music, but just an upper beat tempo. Listening to the music today, I found out at a young age, that it's the same music from the past, but with a higher or lower tempo. I also think the music in the future is going to be more dance and not a lot of soul because that is what's out now. So, all in all, music don't change, only the artist does.

Parents Just Don't Understand

Willow Smith-Whip My Hair

Old Skool vs. New Skool

It's amazing how musical genes can pass down to offspring. Let's take Run DMC and his son Diggy. He is following in his father's footsteps and making a name for himself. We also have Will Smith and both his youngest kids, Jaden and Willow, following in his footsteps. Although Jaden raps, he mostly take after his parents in the box office. Willow, on the other hand, is taking the music world by storm. Even though she is only 10 years old, she is signed to a record label and has 2 music videos under her belt. So, my question is, who is better, the father's or their offspring?

The Future Sound of Music

Despite the rapid evolution of music media in the past 30 years, from vinyl to MP3s, the industry is acutely aware that the way we listen to music has hardly changed allowing little interactivity.  While albums and singles remain the mainstay of the music industry, technologists, innovators and composers are coming up with new tools to help modern listeners engage with the songs they love. One of these is MXP4, a program that allows people to mix their favourite tracks in virtually any way they like. You can add drums, take away backing music, or mash two songs together. The user interface is very simple and built for people with no DJing experience. The music of about 70 artists, including Michael Jackson, has been licensed to the platform. The tool can be found on the websites of the participating record labels, who are looking for innovative ways to compete with the huge volume of free music available online – often illegally. The team behind MPX4 say it offers new ways to rejuvenate artists’ back catalogues, potentially creating new revenue streams for musicians and labels.

My Music is in the Clouds

Amazon this week became the first big internet company to offer something called "cloud music." To the unfamiliar, that term may seem off-putting, like a new soft-rock genre that leans heavily on harp solos. But it's possible many of us will be using cloud music systems in the not-far-off future. Cloud music is simply a term for storing and your music on devices on the Internet and allowing you to access that music from any computer or music device that you have access to. Today, most digital music options, like Apple's iTunes system, force users to store their music on their own hard drives. Some audiophiles amass music collections that take up tens or hundreds of gigabytes of storage space, which slows their computers down. If that drive crashes, the music could be gone. Plus, this music is stuck in one place. You can sync iTunes music, to keep that example going, with Apple's portable devices. But you have to connect your iPhone or iPod to the computer in order to do so. You can't access that music easily from other computers; and it's difficult to store it on multiple devices. In the future music lovers could put all of their music files in the cloud and then access them from anywhere. Being able to access your music from anywhere on almost any device could be a utopia for music lovers. We will have to see what the music industry does in reaction to Amazon's announcement...

The Future of Music

Writing and discussing the future of music is basically a exercise in pure frustration because what you are dealing with, in essence is the future of Art. We may be able to predict where technology is going, such as what rockets, robots, or computerized hats or shoes may look like, but Art, is a much tougher field to predict. Will the music of the future just be an extension of the music of today? Will it be technology based played on computerized electronic instruments lite up with neon? Or will it be like the bar in Star Wars? What do you think the music of the future will sound and look like?

Artist and Fan Interaction

Trent Reznor, the man behind the band Nine Inch Nails, has done so much to allow his fans to interact with his music. He's become a true leader in showing that if the artist engages his fans the can still earn millions while making fans happy, rather than turning them into the enemy. Reznor has always reached out to his fans, and has an amazingly comprehensive website, with forums, chat rooms and many other ways of interacting. He encourages fans to better connect with each other as well. While companies like Warner Music forced all the music videos of their artists off YouTube, Reznor actually aggregates all the videos his fans take at concerts. he encourages them to bring cameras on one page on his own website. He does the same for photos. He released a free iPhone app that allowed fans to locate each other, and communicate with each other, while sharing photos and videos as well. It's all about connecting with those fans, and helping them better connect with each other. This model has allowed him and Nine Inch Nails to stay relevant and profitable in the new millennium of digital music.

Future of the Music Industry

It's no secret that there's a lot of concern these days about what the music industry will look like going forward, especially from those who work on the label side of the business and have been around for a bit. A variety of things have caused rapid change in the market. Competition from other forms of entertainment, such as the internet, movies and video games, have put more pressure on the industry, as consumers have been presented with significantly more options for their entertainment attention and dollars. And, of course, there's the ever-present specter of unauthorized file sharing, or, as the industry prefers to call it accurately or not, "piracy." Plus the true meaning of all music going digital has put a strain on the business of the industry. Gone are the days when kids would hang out at the record store and buy a whole album or CD. With digital download sites such as iTunes and Napster people are just downloading the one song they want from the album and not purchasing the entire album. As people purchase less artists are making less. This is a disturbing trend for new music, why put it out if you won't be rewarded for it?

The song has a unique tone to it. The aduitory art that happened when I heard this song was amazing. One really feels there. One can feel something when they listen to it. It explains so much in such a short piece. The music is very mudane, but yet powerful to one's mind. It expressions so much that had happen in prisons in the segregated south. There are many more songs than this one, but I think this song has a real feel.

Poetry............

Image Gil-Scott Heron saying:

A rat done bit my sister Nell.
(with Whitey on the moon)
Her face and arms began to swell.
(and Whitey's on the moon)
I can't pay no doctor bill.
(but Whitey's on the moon)
Ten years from now I'll be payin' still.
(while Whitey's on the moon)
The man jus' upped my rent las' night.
('cause Whitey's on the moon)
No hot water, no toilets, no lights.
(but Whitey's on the moon)
I wonder why he's uppi' me?
('cause Whitey's on the moon?)
I wuz already payin' 'im fifty a week.
(with Whitey on the moon)
Taxes takin' my whole damn check,
Junkies makin' me a nervous wreck,
The price of food is goin' up,
An' as if all that shit wuzn't enough:
A rat done bit my sister Nell.
(with Whitey on the moon)
Her face an' arm began to swell.
(but Whitey's on the moon)
Was all that money I made las' year
(for Whitey on the moon?)
How come there ain't no money here?
(Hmm! Whitey's on the moon)
Y'know I jus' 'bout had my fill
(of Whitey on the moon)
I think I'll sen' these doctor bills,
Airmail special
(to Whitey on the moon).

Gil-Scott Heron "Whitey on the Moon"

I not going to say much because spoken word poetry is very precise.

What is this?

Should this be considered music? This is exactly what I mean about music that is put out and it shouldn't be.

What is Good Music?

Good music has to have certain elements. For example, it should have understandable lyrics, a nice beat, and people should feel something inside. Some good music today have good messages, but the content is not good for kids. Other good music are the ones that talk about love, as long as they don't go overboard, such as hurting one another or taking any crap.
Here are some slow jams that lover can listen too. One is to get women to understand men more.
  • Lyfe Jennings-Statistics
  • Adrian Hood-Brown Eyed Blues
  • Isley Brothers
  • Mint Condition-Pretty Brown Eyes

This is only a few, but there are many more. All you have to do is listen to the music real close and most likely, excuse all the demeaning words, such as the cuss words.

Mary Mary - Get Up

Gospel Music Today

When I was younger, I had to go to church. The only thing I really cared about was the music. The word was also good to hear, but the preacher always spoke to long and I would get sleepy. Today, my generation really don't go to church anymore and they really don't care about the music. However, gospel artist like; Mary Mary, Kirk Franklin, and Tye Tribbett; just to name a few, are making music that the young and the old can really enjoy. Although they are praising the lord, people can dance to it and it's very catchy.

Music TV shows

No one can deny the popularity of American Idol and before that Star Search. These show feature unknowns trying for their shot at stardom. There are some real good singers on the show, but also some awful ones and that makes for great TV. Some people tune in because they are inspired by someone going for their dreams, believing that that could be them. Others watch the show to see people fail and get ripped apart by the judges. Another reason for the great success of American Idol it the interactivity it offers by allowing the viewers to vote for their favorite contestant and then discuss the latest cuts around the office cooler. Whatever the reason are the popularity of American Idol has spawned copy cat shows and movies. All this from a little music, oh yeah and a lot of Hollywood.

Music Soundtracks

Music soundtracks are used in movies, television shows, video games, and audio books. Movies have used soundtracks since the advancement of adding sound to recorded motion pictures. They set the mood and assist in helping the story move along. Some soundtracks are so good that they can stand on their own and can become more popular albums than the original motion picture. Some movies have such powerful scores that they inspire fear and awe when heard. The Godfather has one of the most recognizable opening scores ever recorded, and the opening strings of Jaws still scares the life jackets off of people and keeps them out of the water. The notes of Close Encounters Of The Third Kind is still recognizable to new movie goers. Some of the best movie soundtracks also include Purple Rain, Saturday Night Fever, and West Side Story.

Below is the song Night Fever by the Bee Gees from the motion picture Saturday Night Fever.

Bad Songs - You know em when you hear em!

I am going to list my worst songs of the 1990’s. My ears are already bleeding.  In no particular order they are as follows:

Ricky Martin: La Vida Loca

Limp Bizkit: Nookie

TLC: Waterfalls

Soundgarden: Black Hole Sun

Billy Ray Cyrus: Achy Breaky Heart

Vanilla Ice: Ice Ice Baby

MC Hammer: Too Legit To Quit

Aqua: Barbie Girl

Los Del Rio: Macarena

Shaquille O’Neal: Strait Playin

Do you agree or disagree with my list? What songs would you add to this list?

Pop Music today

What is Pop music? Popular music, as its name suggests, is music that is release with the goal of getting wide appeal and have large audiences listen to it. It is understood to be commercially recorded and often driven towards the youth market. The songs are usually short and have catchy beats.  There is usually a high degree of production value to the songs, as on their own they may be lacking artistic qualities. Pop music tends to emphasis the production and recording of the music over a live performance. These novelty songs can come out of seemingly nowhere and captivate society and then once we get tired of them then quick disappear into irrelevance.  Anybody remember “Ice, Ice, Baby” by Vanilla Ice, “Rico Suave” by Gerardo or who could forget “Achy Breaky Heart” by Billy Ray Cyrus?

Contemporary Music

Contemporary music or modern music is generally considered any music from the 1950’s to present day. Modern music is generally based on originality and artists are constantly trying to push the envelope with new sounds and experimentation. From the early 1950’s and a generation that first brought us Rock and Roll to the Country music of the 70’s to Pop music of today. The sounds and emotions of music today are like no other time. There is greater variety than ever before. Today you can listen to any type of music and any genre no matter what you’re searching for.

Below is a classic Doo Wop ballad from the Diamonds called “She say (Oom Dooby Doom)” release in 1959.

The Art of Beatboxing (PRESENT)

Beatboxing to some people might not see this as music. It the fundamental language of beats. People start a beat in their heads and it ends up in the music. The OG of beatboxing were the !Kung with their click language. I take them as a big influence to the beatoxing currently. Beatboxers strategically, scientifically, and sporadically take different instruments in their heads and through the mouths. Sometimes they make interesting combinations with instruments until it becomes harmonious. A beatboxer predicts how the beat will turn out in the end. Most time the beats don't make sense, but it only takes one instance that a beat will mesh together. Beatboxing goes across many cultures not just America. A Belgium artist named Roxorloops has won recondition in the beatbox culture. There are American Beatboxers such as razell who has quite an influenza on beatboxing music. Here is a link of Roxorloops at the world beatboxing convention

Immortal Technique (PRESENT)

Elegant. Fierce. Down right F&*%ing raw. He explicitly loud while implicitly sending hidden messages. The messages are different to everyone, but it is clear what kind of message he is giving. He is a post -industrialist revolution rapper. I enjoy many of his lyrics and beats. One song people know is "Dancing with the Devil" that has a certain dark aspect to it. It is reality nonetheless. So Immortal Technique does not try to hide behind the curtains of giant music corporations to sugar coat controversial topics. The culture he brings with him reminds me of the cubism age. People were not ready for cubism and the majestic ugly truth that it had brought. Immortal Technique does exactly that : bring that truth in the spotlight and magnify it a hundreds times over with his vicarious vocabulary. My favorite written piece by him is Creation and Destruction. The rhythmic emotion he gives to every song is explosive. The first link is to "Dancing with the Devil" :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8v-hUweYE4

Music Today

Today's music is way different from back in the day. In the past, music had a meaning and it seemed like everyone had that same feeling as the artist. Today, music is about things some people go through, but not a lot. For example, there is a song about a lady busting window's out her man car. I have never felt that way about a man. I know a person who has actually done that, but I don't feel like it should be an anthem song. Music today, also has a lot of cussing and violence. Kids shouldn't be listening to that much cussing and violence because then they would act it out on the streets.

The Didg

The didgeridoo is probably the one of the oldest instruments in humanity. The instruments comes in different shape and sizes. Bamboo is usually what some didgeridoos are made of. It can be as high as 5ft long to 2ft. It mimics what some aboriginals think the nature of the world. It makes a loud droning sound through the hollow out center. I have one personally made from bamboo and it is very difficult to play. The link shows a man playing the didg really well.

What does music mean all over?

From the different post that we have come up with, different cultures have different types of music that they make/listen too, but all in all, they listen to it for entertainment or communication. Some cultures keep their music close to them where ever they go, while others would let their music die out. The music of the past is the reason we have music today. Nothing has changed except for the person who is singing/rapping and the tempo of the music. The concept of the music today, as it were in the past, is still the same also. To entertain and communicate.

Chinese Instruments

http://summerthundermusic.com/index_files/chninstruments.htm

Here is a list of chinese instruments.

Music is an important part of Chinese way of life. Confucius, a Chinese philosopher, taught the Six Arts: ritual, music, archery, chariot riding, calligraphy, and computation. He said the second most important was music. It's said, where ever Chaozhou move, they take their music heritage with them.

Bone Flute

This instrument is called the vulture bone flute and it was found in a European cave. It has five holes and a v-neck mouth piece. Its about .3 inches wide and 13 inches long. Being that the fragments of the flutes are about 40,000 years-old, which is evidence that the humans had a strategic advantage over the Neanderthals.

The Romantic Era

As the Classical period came to an end in the early 1830’s a new age in music arrived. Western society was still establishing itself after the many social and political revolutions of the late 18th century. New social orders and ways of life and thought started to permeate to the general masses.  The Romantic era lasted from approximately 1830 – 1900 and did not necessarily mean romantic love. The composers and musicians of the Romantic era continued to add depth and emotion to classical forms. They were intent on expressing personal emotions, feelings, and deeper truths in their music. The Opera genera also enjoyed much popularity.  They continued to add depth and nationalistic tones. During this period Germany came to be the musical center of Europe. With the great German masters Felix Mendelssohn, Robert Schumann, and Johannes Brahms.

Below is the piece Wedding March from A Midsummer Night's Dream by Felix Mendelssohn.

The Classical Period

The Classical period picked up after the Baroque Age and lasted until approximately 1830. Musicians moved away from the ornamented styles of the Baroque Age and started to embrace a clean uncluttered style, meant to emulate Classic Greece. Aristocracies were replacing monarchs and the church as the purveyors of the arts. This new class of patron wanted elegant music that could also be used for entertaining.  During this time Vienna became the musical center of Europe and the works of this period are often referred to as Viennese style. The best composers and musicians came from all over Europe to study in Vienna. The orchestra and symphony were in their heyday. The Classical period reached its zenith with the symphonies, string quartets, and sonatas by the three great composers of the Viennese school Franz Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Ludwig Van Beethoven.

Below is the piece Fur Elise by Ludwig Van Beethoven

The Baroque Age

The Baroque Age lasted from ca. 1600 – 1750. It saw composers rebelling against the prevalent styles of the Renaissance period.  A major portion of what is considered classical music today first originated in the Baroque Age. It was also during this period that Opera was established as a music genre. Opera originated in Florence, Italy and some of the earliest opera masterpieces were composed by Claudio Manteverdi.  The Baroque Age was so influential in music that almost all music compositions created later were judged against the great pieces of this age. This music is still widely performed and can easily be heard today. Some of the notable composers from The Baroque Age include Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, and George Frideric Handel.

Below is the piece Spring 1st movement by Antonio Vivaldi, part of the Four Seasons.

The Renaissance Period

As Western Europe advanced out of the Middle Ages there was a great time for cultural awakening. The arts, language, and science flowered all across Europe. Sacred music began, for the first time, to break free of the confines of the Church.  Secular music began to thrive during this period and instrumental and dance music was also performed. Some of the great musicians of the period include Johannes Ockeghem, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, and William Byrd. The Renaissance period left us with a wide variety of instrumental music.

Below is the piece Fantasia I [a6] by William Byrd, performed by The Royal Wind Music.

The Chameleons: How music has changed!: don't worry early music will become the music of t...: "Just as old styles and designs are becoming things of the present so will music of the past become music of the present. Take for example how ..."

don't worry early music will become the music of today

Just as old styles and designs are become things of the present so will music of the past become music of the present. Take for example how long time historical antiques have become very important to this generation, so will the music of the past become connected to this generation. Another example is how clothes and shoes of the pasts are now the leading fashions of the present generation.

The true intention of music of the past

The world has been changing from the time known to man and so has music too. Music of ancient time were more of a general and holistic emotions of an entire people which depicts society sentiments about the conditions of the community in which they lived. In today's world most music shows our carnal desire as compared to music that shows expression about an entire community. morden music cares about personal emotions; it talks about brake ups, gangs, wars, sexual emotions violence, etc. while early music was concerned about the general feelings about an entire community and not individual.

past musical instrument

Never did most people fully understood that early musical instruments were designed with well crafted hand. They were intented to be used in three different ways: strings, wind, and percussion but these instruments can be view from pictorial decorations, pot decorations, relief, mosaics, statues etc are all a rich source of information concerning acient Greek musical instruments. Unfortunately very few fragments have been discovered but they are quite illuminating. finally the various preserved texts and works of ancient Greek liturature are invaluable sources of information.

These instruments are in three categories and they are the strings, the wind, and the percussion instruments. the wind instrument were designed to be blown and in ancient Greek, they were intented for different purpose. the string instrument as we all know is one of the most popular kinds of instrument. Example of such instrument are the guitar, kitharis, varvitos, phorminx, the helyre ect. most of these early instrument can be found on the site http://www.lyravlos.gr/ancient-greek-instrument-en.asp and the last kind of instrument is the percussion instrument most of these types of instruments were intented for religious purposes and most of them were made from wood. in the early days in greek culture, these instruments were played by women.

Naga Tribal Chant & Dance

Africans and music. This is how they express their feelings and tell stories. Music is a way of life for them and they take it real serious. When they were slaves, music helped them cope with the pain. They also hid messages in song.

Indian Classical Music

The post about the Gregorian Chant reminded me at this banquet I bartended at. The events where mainly for Hindu clients. The music that was playing at the party is hypothesizing just like a Gregorian chant. As I looked deeper down into the music, the songs our holy scriptures in their culture. The Vedas are a collection of holy scriptures and hymns. The vocal structure is completely complex. The Samagana is specifically singing hymns to create the Samaveda . Its represents the philosophy and science of uniting thought, sound and music. Udgatar priests usually sing these hymns. So this reminded me of the Gregorian chant.

music and the generation.

Music has evolved for many centuries and it has been the way of life for generations. If we were asked, what is music? many different answers may come out. All of these answers can in no way be regarded as wrong. Music is any sound intented to convey or a form of expression that may be acceptable to a particular generation.

Different kinds of music have been handed down in accordance to four distinct circles; they include the prehistoric period. this period include paleolithic, mesolithic and neolithic. The second period is the ancient period and this period include music that were associated with ancient civilization. They include Egypt, the Mesopotamia, Persia, Greece, Estruscan, and the Roman civilization. the third period is the middle age. this period of music was inherited from the following cultures. They include; Early christians, Byzatine, Islam, early medieval, Romanesque and the Goetic. The fourth period is associated with this generation and it is refer to as modern music.

What is important to stress is that music is strongly affiliated and seriously connected to the generation. The expression of the period and ideas of the people can clearly be recognize in the music of each period mentioned above.

No matter what period a music originated, the general notes and tone of a music could be provocative, lovely, intimidating, mean, vocal, challanging, harmoneous, deceitful etc. In real essence music is the generation perception.

Early Western Music

Music had been a part of the world for thousands of years. Primitive cave drawings, stories from the Bible, and Egyptian hieroglyphs all attest to the fact that people had created instruments and had been making music for millennia.

The word music derives from the ancient Greek muses, the nine goddesses of art and science. The first study of music as an art form dates from around 500 B.C., when Pythagoras experimented with acoustics and the mathematical relationships of tones. In so doing, Pythagoras and others established the Musical modes: scales comprised of whole tones and half steps.

After the fall of the Roman Empire, land, power, and morality was controlled by the Catholic Church. Mostly through superstitious fear, early Catholic leaders were able to claim absolute power over lords, princes, and kings. The Church was able to dictate the progress of arts and letters according to its own strictures and employed all the scribes, musicians and artists. At this time, western music was almost the sole property of the Catholic Church.

The early Christian church derived their music from existing Jewish and Byzantine religious chant. Like all music in the Western world up to this time, plainchant was monophonic, that is, it comprised a single melody without any harmonic support or accompaniment. There were many hundred of these chants, with different melodies and tempos. It was believed that Pope Gregory I (reigned 590-604) codified them during the sixth-century, establishing uniform usage throughout the Western Catholic Church. Although his actual contribution to this enormous body of music remains unknown, his name has been applied to this music, and it is known as Gregorian Chant.

Good Music?

What is good music? I went last year to a concert to the roots picnic and there was this rapper and his dj. I didn't understand anything he said, but that was the interesting part. I could not hear anything , he sounded a someone on a bunch drugs. I further looked into him and found him very intriguing. His music was not the same as traditional rappers I have heard. The music to me was consider good music. It became pleasing to my ear when rhymed. What gives people the right to preach what is good music and what is down right horrible? I understand that the times are different. People must allow themselves to be open minded and understand social changes. I am very open minded to music, culture, religion anything. I enjoy listening to "oldies" too. Hearing Sinatra makes me want to be in that time period. Bob Dylan's "The Times Are Changing" is one pleasing soulful song.
Here is that link for the Busdriver rapper I was talking about if anyone is interested in it.

Music...How different it is today.

I personally believe music has changed from the look, sound, and impact it has on everyone. In the past, artist would wear costumes and funny looking jewelry. Their sound was their own and they made sense of what they were singing or rapping about. Also, their impact on society made people want to fall in love or stand up for a cause. Today, however, their look is nothing more than a tank top or bra, and some tight jeans for women and baggy clothes for men. Their sound is just an upbeat from the past and their lyrics are usually demeaning. Also, thier impact on society today make people act like they have no sense.
