The Classical period picked up after the Baroque Age and lasted until approximately 1830. Musicians moved away from the ornamented styles of the Baroque Age and started to embrace a clean uncluttered style, meant to emulate Classic Greece. Aristocracies were replacing monarchs and the church as the purveyors of the arts. This new class of patron wanted elegant music that could also be used for entertaining. During this time Vienna became the musical center of Europe and the works of this period are often referred to as Viennese style. The best composers and musicians came from all over Europe to study in Vienna. The orchestra and symphony were in their heyday. The Classical period reached its zenith with the symphonies, string quartets, and sonatas by the three great composers of the Viennese school Franz Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Ludwig Van Beethoven.
Below is the piece Fur Elise by Ludwig Van Beethoven
Emmanuel I found this post to be very interesting. I also loved hearing Beethoven's classical music playing on your post. I find classical music to be very relaxing to listen to. It is definitely a very important piece of communication for the arts. These men were all very intelligent to be able to put together such beautiful pieces. Mary Ann Reday.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this post, as Beethoven's Fur Elise is a very well known piece of music and also placed in many small musical boxes. I agree with your comments that the classical period was extremely important as this time period was referred to as the Golden Age, producing chamber music, concerto's, opera's and symphonies. Most are very well known and played even in today's music. Thanks for the article.
ReplyDeleteI find the Classical Period very wonderful. I think that Beethoven is a musical genius. I am not the biggest fan of Classical music but I do put it on when I am studying because it puts me in a very relaxing mood. I have it on my iPod as well but I have to change the song if one comes on when I'm lifting weights. I need hard rock music to work out to.
ReplyDeleteI like the music from this time period. Songs written were a piece of art. Beethoven was a very talented musician. This music is from the 1800's and is known today. I love the songs you picked!
ReplyDeleteI think the change in music is just a change in society. As things change, such as technology of the churches, people also change their styles and that is what they change their style of music. This time period was mostly very elegant to view, when you think of Vienna you think of nice scenery. This is where the nice sounding music comes from. That’s just my opinion. It’s interesting how the styles of art change with technology.
