Music TV shows

No one can deny the popularity of American Idol and before that Star Search. These show feature unknowns trying for their shot at stardom. There are some real good singers on the show, but also some awful ones and that makes for great TV. Some people tune in because they are inspired by someone going for their dreams, believing that that could be them. Others watch the show to see people fail and get ripped apart by the judges. Another reason for the great success of American Idol it the interactivity it offers by allowing the viewers to vote for their favorite contestant and then discuss the latest cuts around the office cooler. Whatever the reason are the popularity of American Idol has spawned copy cat shows and movies. All this from a little music, oh yeah and a lot of Hollywood.

  1. American Idol has a hugh following in United States and I agree people watch it for many different reasons. The producers of the show have made it very interesting and entertaining, and that is what I think keeps people coming back to the show year after year. Also, the winner of the show provides a fantastic opportunity for the winner to have a career in the music business.

  2. I think American Idol gives people the opportunity to pursue their dream of being famous, and if not for this avenue they may never have the chance. It does make for good TV, they way they build up the suspense of who made it through to the next round. And after 10 years, you see alot of the same performers - it good to see someone with originality and true talent.

  3. Yes, I agree with music shows its all for ratings. People like watching for the good and the bad. I remember MTV used to be all music but now that has turned around into shows now. Everywhere we go there is always music around us like on the radio, tv, and more.

  4. With the different kinds of shows out there now of days it can be both a positive thing and negative thing. its great that people can show their talent and have a chance to win a record deal. but on the other hand there is so many of theses shows some people its just a way for people to get 15 seconds of fame. i also wish mtv was what is was, music television and not jersey shore television.

  5. I can't believe that American Idol has been around for 10 years. Where did the time go? I never really watched American Idol. The only time I watched it was whem Fantasia and Jennifer Hudson were on the show. Jennifer Hudson lost to Fantasia, but Jennifer Hudson aears to be more sucessful than fantasia. After all these years American Idol is still loved by the American people.

  6. I watch American Idol and sometimes I think 'Why would people do this?'. I get it that it's a chance at being a star, but sometimes the show makes their personal life available to the public just so the public feels for them. The way they go through the show shouldn't matter on how miserable life is, but how talented the people are.

  7. only good part about american idol is watching the people who have no ounce of talent! i know its horrible, but it was bad for someone to actually think they had talent to begin with

  8. Shows like this have changed our society. People that we would never know are now household names; some of them good and some of them bad. Who can forget William Hung singing “She bang, she bang”, or Sunjaya’s hair. But there are also many good performers that are still around after American Idol. Jennifer Hudson and Carrie Underwood have great careers and Fantasia has her own reality show on VH1.

  9. It seems many American Idol winners disappear after their one-hit wonders. Taylor Hicks "Do I Make you Proud" was popular for a while. Now, I do not even hear his name. It seems as if he as if he fell off the face of the earth. The show gets America rallied and the contestants to show off, yet sometimes their "real" talent is magic. (The Disappearing Act)

  10. Your right about what you said about music and American Idol Has its fair share of positive and negative appeals, but in the end music is something that is almost a necessity to life. A lot of the original music television channels like MTV VH1 don't even play videos like the use too. A lot of people would like the music television channels to play more music but an even bigger majority are all about drama and gossip so that's how they base what they play on TV.

  11. Kelly Clarkson is my favorite American Idol ever!! Carrie Underwood is great, too! The runner-ups often times have more success than the first place winner. Jennifer Hudson is very successful right not. She is the spokesperson for Weight Watchers and played a leading role in Dream Girls. She is well respected and highly regarded. On the other hand, Fantasia Barrino is a mess. I think it is terrible she keeps promoting her messy lifestyle choices on her reality television show. Ruben Studdard was a nice winner. He looked like a big teddy bear and had a very sweet personality. American Idol is a great stage for those looking to get into the business.

It is interesting they lowered the age to thirteen. Does anyone personally know someone who made it to California. I know people who tried out, but none who made it out West. How do you think the new cast of judges compare to the originals?
