Music...How different it is today.
I personally believe music has changed from the look, sound, and impact it has on everyone. In the past, artist would wear costumes and funny looking jewelry. Their sound was their own and they made sense of what they were singing or rapping about. Also, their impact on society made people want to fall in love or stand up for a cause. Today, however, their look is nothing more than a tank top or bra, and some tight jeans for women and baggy clothes for men. Their sound is just an upbeat from the past and their lyrics are usually demeaning. Also, thier impact on society today make people act like they have no sense.

Music has change I think for the better because it allows different types of music to emerge. I understand some "mainstream music" has some negatives aspects to it, but it reflects what people think they want. I admit I do hear some mainstream stuff, but I truley listen to music that makes sense to me. I think we need changes into music in order to realize what music we really love to listen too.
ReplyDeleteI agree that music has changed significantly and will continue to do so with each generation. An example, would be the raging 20's in the "flapper" era. I'm not really a fan of that particular type of music, but the generation at the time enjoyed the music along with dressing the part. Dapper Dan's and Flappers all doing the "Charleston" dance. Same goes for today, people will dress the part for the music. Some of the music we hear today (rap) is not smooth, graceful notes, it's choppy and with an attitude, just like the clothes that the people are wearing. Music and clothing are statements. I can't imagine what artists will sound like and what they will be wearing.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the way music is different today. An example I see all the time is the clothes that people wear that listen to certain music. The biggest example I can provide is a lot of the kids who listen to RAP wear Flat Brim hats and shirts that are 3 times too big for them. Another is people who go to Country concerts who dress in Cowboy hats and boots and they are not even Southern.
ReplyDeleteThe video The Nega Tribal Chant & Dance demonstrates how music in the past was use to tell a story and to preserve history. Music was also instrumental in lifting individuals spirits during oppression. Yet despite the constant evolution of music through new scientific and artistic technology, music is still use to tell a story and to lift spirits.
ReplyDeleteAshley, I agree with you that some artists of today are dressing down or inappropriately. But that is what they perceive to be their image and unfortunately people will remember them for the outrageous look as well as for their music. Michael Jackson had a distinct look with the one glove and military style jackets, and people copied his style. I think today's artists are targeting specific groups with their music and their attire to attract followers so they can achieve fame and fortune.
ReplyDeleteI agree Ashley. Music today has no meaning. Everyone is rapping or singing about the same thing and it has no connection with anything. They sing about cars and money, what about what is happening in the world. There’s not that much new music that I listen to and I haven’t bought a CD in over 5 years. I’d rather listen to my old music.
